They told me that “ Life is a journey of crossroads, back roads, mountains to climb, valleys of despair, deserts and oasis, wilderness and wastelands, rivers to cross, forks in the road, detours, dead ends, and open roads”…..

I learnt from my communities, and my people living in the slums and villages, that the journey of life may have been unpredictable, but refusing to give up, we would find ourselves flying into the rising sun with hope and faith, like a butterfly that dared its cocoon and burst forth into a free world of peace, love and equality….

A Journey of Selfless Service

For Anita, the journey the three decade journey of full time service for the poor and the needy started in a family which was a household name in Chittoor.  Anita is the daughter of Smt Ranjini Reddy and Shri Dwaraknath, the founder of The Ramanarpanam Trust and DWARAKA.

Having born with the proverbial silver spoon, Anita’s path in life could indeed have been a bed of roses. Only that she chose walk a path that was full of thorns, but one in which she only saw the potential of a beautiful spring and blooms. Therefore, the various challenges did not deter her spirit and momentum. The confluence of multiple factors, including studying in the lap of nature, living in the midst of a rustic village atmosphere only nurtured the ingrained spirit of sensitivity and service. The early influences of Rishi Valley, and subsequently Women’s Christian College, were enhanced by her family values of mutual respect and regard for one and all.

The tree of service, nurtured by Anita with a commitment that grew stronger by the day, developed deep roots, while its branches reached for the sky. Be it health, education, training, housing, infrastructure, the organizations initiated and chartered by Anita, helped many to come back from the jaws of death, while some put a roof over the heads of homeless. The rich grassroots level experience of Anita began to be sought at by the policy makers. Thus, several high level committees sought her expertise and experience in shaping policies and in implementing strategies.

She is as much sensitive to a drop of tear as she is to the mega scale dynamics of state and national level policies, poverty, housing, urbanization and globalization. She cherishes the beauty of the flower bed even as she is concerned about the rapid browning of large tracts of green land.  Even if one cannot be a turning point in the lives of everybody, Anita has atleast enriched the lives of many in one way or another.
